Release Notes
What changed in each version of Tuna, newest first.
1.1.2
- Start cooking: cook a recipe one step at a time. See what to get out and which shelf it's on, run timers that ring with your phone locked, and pick up where you left off.
- Say what you have: tell Tuna what you bought, ate or tossed, out loud or typed, then confirm the list. It works in Talk to Tuna and in Scan Multiple Items.
- Scan Multiple Items is rebuilt: a full-screen scanner, search and voice in one panel, and a quick card for each item.
- Receipts show what became of each trip, and a line can be split across pantry sections.
- A new grocery list, recipe cards with swipes, and a spending page that shows what got tossed.
1.1.1
- Pantry swipes are back. Swipe right to plan an item, or to pitch it when it is past its date. Swipe left to move it or mark it all gone.
- Select several pantry items at once: long press a row, or use Select items in the menu. Move them all to one shelf, or mark them all gone as eaten or tossed.
- When the last of something leaves your pantry, we ask whether to put it on your grocery list.
- Your pantry sections show their icon and color on the list, and changes to sections save as you make them.
- Pantry cards: tap the photo to see it large or replace it, tap the date to pick a new one, and the amount slider lands on whole amounts.
1.1.0
- Tuna now opens on your Pantry. The Home screen is gone, and the bottom bar is Pantry, Meals, Recipes, Groceries and a new Receipts tab, where scanning and your past receipts live.
- Pantry cards: tap a pantry item and it opens in place. Plan it, move it, mark it all gone, or pitch it if it is past its date, with Undo on every one. Rows show what is available, not just what is on hand.
- Clean the Fridge is now a mode of the pantry list, with Expiring soon and Expired tabs. Work down the list; what you have handled stays where it was, faded, until you press Done.
- Waste gets counted. All gone asks how much is left, then whether the rest was eaten or tossed. Frozen food and leftovers now expire on their own clocks and show up with the rest of the expiring food.
- Plan to use it: give expiring food a job, eaten at a meal or cooked into something, starting from the meals you have made with it and the recipes that use it. Two plans can't quietly claim the same food.
- Cooking draws from everything you have. A recipe wanting 8 eggs takes 6 from the carton that expires first and 2 from the next. When several things you own could fill an ingredient, you choose.
- One amount sheet on every amount field. When a unit will not convert, it says what it needs to know ("needs 1 cup = ? g"). Tell us once and every recipe gets it right.
- Receipt review: every line comes past you for its amount, cost and expiry date, and the amount you confirm is the amount we keep.
- New households get a new setup: name your household, set up your pantry sections and expiring-food alerts, and scan your first five things. Anything you put off waits in a "Finish setting up" card on your Pantry.
- New app icon.
1.0.4
- Recipes: the second tab is your recipe library again, with sort and filters — "Can make tonight", "Use up soon", total time, tags — when you last cooked each dish, and a green Ready badge when everything's on hand.
- Make it: when a dish needs something you'd first have to make — brewed coffee, separated eggs, the dry mix — we now offer the prep that makes it and cook it on the spot. What a prep produces on the side (egg whites, bacon grease) lands in your pantry as its own leftovers, Keep or Toss.
- Pantry places: every item lives in the pantry, fridge, or freezer, with USDA shelf lives for each. Move an item and the clock follows; freeze part of a pack and thaw just what you need.
- Produce stickers scan now: the camera reads the printed PLU number, since those stickers have no barcode.
- Voice logging moved to a "Talk to Tuna" button on the meal planner, hears you better, and what it logs shows up immediately.
- Grocery check-offs survive store wifi, and the list holds its order while you shop.
1.0.3
- Voice logging: tap the mic on Home and say what happened. "The kids each had a cheese stick" logs a meal for anyone in the household, "I made the chicken bowls for four" cooks the recipe and draws its ingredients down, "the rest of the spinach went bad" records waste. It reads back what it heard, and nothing counts until you confirm it.
- The Menu now reads like a restaurant's: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Snacks, and All Recipes tabs, each one ranked against a real meal slot so what's expiring gets somewhere to go.
- The planner fills itself in: an empty slot names the dish suggested for it, home leads with the meal that still needs deciding, and eating out is a one-tap skip. Set your grocery trips per week and how far ahead to plan under Settings, Planning.
- Pantry rows gain "Make something with this" — the recipes and meal ideas that use that item, cooked straight into whichever meal you pick.
- Calories now read off the label the way it's printed. A panel that leads with kilojoules no longer lands as 994 calories when it says 290, and calories burned from a workout are no longer off by a factor of a thousand.
1.0.2
- Plan intention: when adding to the Meal Planner, indicate if tracking what you ate, cooking a recipe, or throwing something together without a recipe.
- You can also name a loose, thrown-together batch you cooked, and indicate how many servings it made after people have eaten from it.
- When short an ingredient with an exact match we now expand to similar other foods that could be substitutes.
- When scanning receipts, quantity listed on the receipt for an item is used
- Several improvements to pantry list organization: sort, filter, and group the pantry the way you want it. "Went bad" is a swipe.
1.0.1
- Leftovers, handled: when you eat out or log something new, tell Tuna how much you got and how much you ate. The rest lands in your pantry, dated and priced right.
- Smarter receipts: weighed produce fills in real quantities, prices show per pound, and close matches always ask before linking.
- Search understands plurals, past cooks reload cleanly, bulk scan keeps quantities when re-editing, and the app is a smaller download.
- Confirming a cooked meal no longer resets its leftover count.
