What Is Tuna?

Last updated

You didn't buy it to throw it away

Tuna is a shared pantry for your household. You load what you already have, and Tuna keeps track of every item and every expiration date. When something is close to going bad, it tells you, well in advance, so it gets eaten instead of tossed.

No more forgetting about that bag of carrots at the back of the fridge, or throwing out strawberries nobody ate.

What Tuna does

It holds your pantry. Scan or search from our database of over a million foods to load what you already have, then scan your grocery receipt to add each new shop. Every item comes in with how much you have and when it expires.

It tells you what needs eating. At 7 AM on mornings when something is expiring, one alert says how many foods need eating. Tap it and you're looking at exactly those items.

It helps you use food in time. Plan it for a meal, cook it into something, or move it to the freezer. Tuna shows the recipes you've saved and the meals you've made that use it.

It works with the recipes you love. Import a recipe from a link or snap a photo of a cookbook page. Tuna connects each ingredient to what's in your pantry, so you know what to make, and cooking takes the ingredients out of the pantry for you.

It's shared. Everyone in the household sees the same pantry and works from the same grocery list, so "do we already have this?" takes one look.

Have it at home

Some nights the hard part isn't the cooking. It's standing in front of the fridge trying to think of what to make with what you have, and ordering out instead. Because Tuna knows what's in your pantry and which of your recipes it can make, that question already has an answer.

Where it leads

Once the pantry is current, the rest follows. You can track what everyone eats, see nutrition against your goals, see what your food really costs, and plan a few days ahead. Keep it up and you end up buying only what you need, which is the surest way to waste less. None of that is required to start. Loading the pantry is.
